The emergence of the novel 2009 H1N1 influenza virus highlights unique aspects of transplant care that will require heightened vigilance in coming months. Recognition of the syndrome, aggressive diagnosis and early treatment should be paired with active preventative measures to stem the impact of infection in the transplant population.
