        Marjatta Leirisalo-Repo is Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Helsinki and Chief Physician at the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine, Helsinki University Central Hospital.  After graduating in Medicine from Helsinki University, she trained in Internal Medicine at Helsinki University Central Hospital. She had her  PhD thesis at Helsinki University and thereafter trained in Rheumatology at the Helsinki University Central Hospital and at Rheumatism Foundation Hospital, Heinola. After that, she worked for several years as Consultant in Rheumatology at Helsinki University Central Hospital.  In 1998-1999, she was Professor of Rheumatology at University of Lund, Sweden., and returned to Helsinki in 2000.

        Her main research interests are triggering infections, clinical picture, therapy and prognosis of reactive arthritis, and treatment options, prognosis and prognostic factors  in early rheumatoid arthritis.  She is member of the FIN-RACo team and principal investigator at the ongoing NEO-RACo study, both studies focussing on the use of combination therapies in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis.
