Dr. Glickman is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine (VMD) and the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health (MPH, DrPH). He is a Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology. Following several years in private veterinary practice, he was a faculty member of veterinary schools at Cornell University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Purdue University. He has received numerous honors including:

  • 1972- Borden Award for highest academic average in veterinary school
  • 1972- J.B. Lippincott Prize for academic achievement in veterinary school
  • 1972- Leonard Pearson Prize for Advancement of Veterinary Science and Research in Practice, Education and in Civilization
  • 1972- 1930 Class Prize-for highest average in surgery
  • 1983- Ralston Purina Small Animal Research Award
  • 1987- Veterinary Student Government Award for Excellence in Teaching, University of Pennsylvania

Dr. Glickman’s research interests include the epidemiology of cancer, infectious diseases, and environmental issues, in both human and animal populations. His current research goal is to develop a fully computerized national surveillance system for syndromes and diseases of companion animals that will provide early warning of insults related to acts of bioterrorism or emerging infections diseases. He has published over 250 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in the human and veterinary medical literature and chaired a committee of the National Academy of Sciences that published a monograph titled Animal Sentinels of Environmental Health Hazards.

 

Dr. Glickman has mentored 25 PhD students in comparative epidemiology, microbiology, international health, and nutrition. He teaches courses in both human and veterinary medicine as well as graduate courses in epidemiological methods, nutritional epidemiology, and clinical trials. He is on the editorial review board for the journal Preventive Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Therapeutics.
