Jean-François Magnaval, MD, Doctor Scientiae, is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine in Toulouse. He received degrees in Zoology and Entomology (1972), Parasitology (1974), Immunology (1976) and Tropical Medicine (1979). He obtained the Doctor Scientiae degree of Human Biology in Lyon (1989). He gained field experience of tropical medicine and parasitology in Central Sahara, East Africa, and Caribbean. In Fort-de-France, La Martinique, he spent 2 years at the Institut Pasteur, in the sector of Parasitology and Leprosy, and 2 years more as Head of the Regional Laboratory of Hygiene. He is currently full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, and Head of the Department of Parasitology and Mycology of the University Hospitals, Toulouse, France. He has authored 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and has written 10 book chapters, most of them on the topic of human toxocariasis.
