Dr. Tan received his MD Degree from the University of Philippines and served his Infectious Disease Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio. Presently he is Professor and Vice Chairman for Internal Medicine and Head of the Infectious Disease Section at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (NEOUCOM). In addition he holds the title of Master Teacher at NEOUCOM.

He is the Chairman for the Department of Medicine at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio. Dr Tan is a Master of the American College of Physicians, a Fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians, and a Fellow in the Infectious Disease Society of America. He is also a member of the National Guidelines Committee for Diabetic Foot Infections. Dr. Tan is the editor of the book "Expert Guide to Infectious Diseases" published by the American College of Physicians. He is the senior editor for Infectious Diseases in Clinical Practice. His major research interests are pneumonia and diabetic foot infections.
