Christiane Bebear is Professor Emeritus at the Univesity of Bordeaux and honorary Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Hyacinthe Vincent. From 1981-2007 Dr. Bordeaux served as head of the Department of Bacteriology at the Bordeaux University Hospital. She was president of the subsection 45-01 of Bacteriology, Virology and Hospital Hygiene and the 45th section, Microbiology, Infectious Diseases and Hygiene of the National Council of Universities from 1995-2001. She also served as Vice-President of the Conference of Deans of the Faculties of Medicine of France from 2003-2008.

For over 35 years she has been involved in international research activities concerning human mycoplasmal and chlamydial infections for which her lab, directed by Professor Cecile Bebear, was recognized as the French expert laboratory in human mycoplasmas and the French reference centeror chlamydiae. From 1988-1990 she has served as Secretary General of the International Organization for Mycoplasmology (IOM). She obtained the Board of Directors of the IOM price in 2000. Dr. Bebear also served as an Associate Member of the French National Economic, Social and Environmental Council from 2012-2014.
