Allen Cheng, MB,BS, FRACP graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1993. He completed his residency at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, Australia and training in infectious diseases at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne and Duke University Medicine Center, Durham NC, United States. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Currently, he is based in Darwin, Australia at the Menzies School of Health Research and Flinders University.

His research interests include the melioidosis and severe sepsis in the Asia-Pacific region, and snake envenomation particularly in developing world settings.
