              Dr. Kiehn received his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona and was a Medical Microbiology Fellow at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. He has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Microbiology Reviews, the European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, and Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, and was editor of the Clinical Microbiology section of Armstrong and Cohen, eds. Infectious Diseases, 1st Edition, and Cohen and Powderly, eds. Infectious Diseases, 2nd Edition. He is currently Chief of the Microbiology Service and Chair of the Quality Assessment Committee in the Department of Clinical Laboratories at MSKCC. His clinical and research interests and publications include studies addressing the development of rapid and sensitive methods for diagnosing infections in the immunocompromised patient, determining appropriate antimicrobial therapies, and helping detect and track emerging pathogenic microorganisms.
