Dr. Bonvicini graduated from the University of Bologna with a degree in Biological Sciences (University of Bologna). Her research activity regards both basic and applied virology and has been mainly focused on the study of parvovirus B19 infection. As regards basic virology, the dynamics of replication and expression of viral nucleic acids in infected cells have been studied; in the field of applied virology, she has gained wide expertise in the development of new molecular diagnostic assays that have been applied to the rapid and specific diagnosis of the viral diseases and to the investigation of the pathogenetic role of viruses in different human pathologies.
